Freedom and Rights of Individuals (LO1)
Have you ever wondered what do you need to function as a human being? What kind of conditions do you need to keep on living within a society? The following activities will lead you to answer all these questions, as well as to put into practice some reading and writing strategies seen in class.
Main Goal of the activity :
To understand the importance of the freedoms and rights established in the Declaration Human Rights.

Activity #1 What do we need to function?
Objective: To think and reflect on what the type of needs people from different social and cultural contexts have.
In your first activity, you are expected to analyze some pictures and think about the type of needs the people from each picture might have to carry out with their lives day-by-day. In order to develop this activity you must follow the following instructions:
1. PADLET: you were sent an invitation via e-mail to participate from a collective online activity; therefore, you should check your email to gain access to this online platform.
2. See, think and wonder: once you are in the padlet, you need to take a look at the pictures displayed, you should think about what kind of needs each group of people has. Finally, create a post (with your name as a title) in which you will write as many ideas (sentence form) you have regarding these people's needs. Try not to place your post over other people's comments.
Activity #2 Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Objective: To apply efficiently the scanning reading strategy to find specific information in a text.

For this activity you need to put into practice the scanning reading strategy for you to be capable to answer some questions from a quiz in a short period of time (5 minutes). In order to do so, you will need the Universal Declaration of human rights (Click here to get access) for you to locate the information you are requested to look for on each question from the quiz.
Activity #3 Collaborative writing
Objectives:
- To apply correctly the Opinion text and paragraph writing structure.
- To be capable of working effectively with my peers in order to achieve a common goal.
Taking into account your initial thoughts on activity # 1, and the knowledge you gained on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in activity #2 you should now work on new PADLET post (click here to access the new padlet), in which you and another classmate are going to work collaboratively to produce an opinion paragraph as a response to the question "what would the world be like if there were not human rights?" . Take into account the following recommendations for you to develop successfully this activity:
1. Revise the opinion paragraph structure
2. Take a look again at the Declaration of Human Rights website
3. Review second conditional
4.Your classmate and you should write some drafts and consequently revise them together before writing the final paragraph you will be posting in the padlet.
